Touchless faucets and dispensers let users operate a fixture without pressing a handle or button. When planning a commercial restroom update, convenience is one consideration alongside the fixture’s fit, maintenance needs, and suitability for the building.

Review the installation requirements

Before choosing a model, have the installer review the existing plumbing, mounting arrangement, and power requirements. Discuss how the fixture will be maintained and whether replacement parts and consumables are available for the model you are considering.

Check efficiency claims for the actual fixture

A sensor alone does not establish a fixture’s water use. The EPA’s WaterSense labeling guidance distinguishes eligible product categories and notes that public lavatory faucets are not currently eligible for the label. Review the specifications of the exact model instead of applying a broad claim to all touchless fixtures.

Keep cleaning in the plan

Sinks, counters, dispensers, and surrounding surfaces still need regular cleaning. If the restroom is being renovated, discuss when it will close, how staff and visitors will access other facilities, and when final cleaning will take place.
