Door handles and shared controls can be easy to miss in a cleaning plan focused on floors and bins. Naming these surfaces helps establish who cleans them, which method is appropriate, and how often they need attention.

The useful starting point is the way people move through your workplace. Entrances, kitchens, meeting rooms, and restrooms each have different touchpoints.

Identify the surfaces people share

A room-by-room review can include:

  • Door handles, push plates, and light switches.
  • Elevator buttons and stair handrails.
  • Shared printer controls and meeting-room controls.
  • Kitchen appliance handles and taps.
  • Restroom faucets, flush controls, and dispenser surfaces.

This is a planning list, not permission to treat every surface the same way. Electronic controls and coated materials need compatible products and handling instructions.

Distinguish cleaning from disinfection

The EPA distinguishes cleaning from sanitizing and disinfecting. Cleaning removes dirt and organic matter. Disinfectant products must be used according to their labels, including the required time a surface stays wet.

A quick wipe is not automatically a completed disinfection step. When disinfection is included in the agreement, the product, surface, and application instructions need to match.

Set frequency according to use

A shared entrance or kitchen can see more activity than a private office. We review those differences when planning commercial cleaning so the task list reflects the rooms people actually use.

To schedule cleaning when shared areas are available, let us know when they are busiest and when our team can access them. Daytime attention and after-hours cleaning can then be discussed with defined tasks for each visit.

Make reporting specific

If a shared surface needs more attention, identifying the location and time helps us review the plan. A general request to “disinfect everything” gives much less guidance than a list of the surfaces and rooms involved.
